Sales on Bags

Check out sales

Walmart has canvas bags on sale for .50 per bag, then they have these newer bags for .25 per bag. You know with these going on, you should consider buying some and/or check out stores like Kroger and some of the other local stores. If you pick up one bag, you pick up a feeling that these will assist in the progress of making a bigger mark.

New Convention Goal

Posted this on FB that was should make it a goal to drop plastic bag use by 45% this year and move toward making conventions cleaner. It appears that Nan Desu Kan are actually for the idea of cleaner convention and easier making the idea that we are going to save the environment. If I do return to the convention next year, I'm going to be selling some of these bags and some of proceeds of the bags will be going to One Drop.

What is One Drop?

One Drop is an organization founded by the creators of Cirque du Soliel who believed it was not fair for a third world nation to have to pay to have clean water, which should be free to them. Considering that a third world nation may not have the economy to pay for it on their own and taking out a loan at the World Bank wouldn't work for them either.

So with all the money made from donations and also from other events. I was hoping that Anime Fans, Furries, and other fandoms could assist with moving forward. We do have donations pouring into Save Japan due to the Tsunami back in March, but we don't have much in the way of knowing other organizations too.

Bags and Bags

Paint your own
I will be announce soon that there will be a paint your own canvas bag, basically I will ask peopel to bring a blank bag over. Then with paints and such, I will ask people to bring there own or share with their friends to paint their name and if they are artistic enough to put there favorite characters on there.

Anyone can participate and it doesn't really have to be for anime conventions, it can be a bag you use to go grocery shopping.

How Plastic Wrecks a Convention
Nearly everyone has at one time gone to an anime convention or go to some kind of public event and you see venders selling items. You notice that sometimes some of the venders have turned into telling customers to please bring their own bags. The reason for this is because plastic is tacky, it breaks easily and it gets just about everywhere.

Not only does it clog up trash cans, it isn't really needed, there is no shame to stop using plastic bags.

Every step works

Animeland Wasabi
Good news on the front of no more plastic bags, the idea of using canvas bags in place of plastic was actually a good idea. The director loved the idea and wants to use it and make some nice cheap bags for fans to buy.

Nan Desu Kan
After a post was made on their forum by yours truly, fans were encouraged to bring their reusable bags to con and also to purchase a bag at the convention because it was being phased out for something new. It is nice for the staff to actually say it is okay to not accept plastic bags and just use a canvas.

We were also informed to please keep our receipts from our purchases and make sure that it is present when we show security. This is a minor inconvenience, but all in the name of conservation!

Other venues
There are some other events around Colorado that do use canvas bags as an alternative to the plastic bag. Mostly because it was better and also you can hold more in it. Ren Fest down in Larkspur CO has cheap convenient bags for sale just as you enter the fair ground.

Several supermarkets around Denver use it, so do some of the libraries. Arapahoe County Labraries even issue free book bags on their mobile library outreach. So we are going in the step in the right direction.

If we can get the conventions to stop using plastic in favor of canvas, we are actually doing a service. The reason is, that plastic bags are unsightly, dirty up hotel rooms, cause messes, and also just don't look good. With a canvas bag, you are only deal with maybe a smaller mess, you can transport items faster, while a plastic bag will split.

Project Green Cons

What we want?
We want to have all anime conventions and conventions in the US to stop using plastic bags for any reasons other than what is considered biodegradable. We are tired of the litter in the hall ways of convention hotels, we want to make con clean and welcoming for all.

Talk to local convention directors
Talk to your convention directors, express that you want to move to a green convention. Insist that the canvas bags would be cheaper and also make a cleaner looking convention. Have Con Goers pledge to not use plastic and promise to use their own bags.

Inform con goers that yes, con security can search the canvas bags if they suspect stolen items, which won't be bad. Remember to keep your receipts for what you purchase at the convention's dealer's room.

Do not use plastic bags at conventions Pledge

I,___________________ promise to never use plastic bags at any convention's dealer's room. To help keep the convention clean, to pick up trash and also make sure that the hotel staff have a helping hand in keeping the environment clean.
